Nursing Major and Business Major from UNM-Valencia Make All-New Mexico Academic Team

Two UNM-Valencia Campus students, Kathy Metzger and Rachel Gillentine, were recently honored for their academic achievements in a ceremony sponsored by the New Mexico Association of Community Colleges and the New Mexico Independent Community Colleges in Santa Fe.

The students were accepted for the All-New Mexico Academic Team and were honored at a ceremony in the State Roundhouse sponsored by the NMACC and the NMICC, Jan. 23 in Santa Fe.

Both are planning on graduating this spring from UNM-Valencia and continuing their education at the UNM Main Campus. Metzger is pursuing a nursing degree and Gillentine is majoring in business.

Metzger is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She is currently the scholarship officer for the Beta Zeta Zeta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society, at UNM-Valencia.

Gillentine is president of the PTK chapter at the campus and is also a tutor at the Adult Basic Education program at UNM-Valencia. She is planning on pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business at main campus.

This notes the 11th annual NMACC/NMICC All-State Academic Team Reception. The event honors the highest achieving students of the year in the community college system. Each student received a scholarship for their efforts, and Metzger and Gillentine were among 33 community college students honored at the ceremony.
