For the first time in 19 years, the University of New Mexico School of Law is sending two teams to the finals of the National Mock Trial competition. The two UNM teams emerged as the top competitors from a field of 20 teams taking part of the regional competition, held at the U.S. Federal Courthouse in downtown Albuquerque from Jan. 31-Feb. 2.
The winning team members were: Nate Cobb, Heather Jaramillo, Stephen Lane, Heather Massoth, Robert Sanchez and Athena Spencer. They were coached by Steve Scholl (UNM School of Law class of '89) and Brent Bailey.
In addition to UNM, law schools represented included: the University of Denver, University of Colorado, Oklahoma City University, University of Tulsa, University of Oklahoma, University of Kansas, Washburn University, University of Arkansas-Little Rock, and University of Arkansas-Fayetteville.
More than 150 alumni, students and friends of the UNM School of Law volunteered their time and talent to serve as judges, bailiffs, scorekeepers and witnesses.
The National Mock Trial competition will take place in Austin, Texas from March 26-29.
