Williams is currently chief executive officer and general manager of KTWU Topeka, Kansas. His broadcasting career began at the Alabama Public Television Network with positions as host and producer/director in program development. His management career began as Director of Production for the Mobile, Alabama facility where concurrently, Williams also directed news for the local NBC affiliate.
Later, Williams became Associate Director/Executive Producer for the satellite services division of Western Illinois University, with public and private clients including ABC, NBC, FOX, The National Science Foundation and the US Department of Agriculture. Mr. Williams returned to public television in the mid-90’s as the Station Manager for WYCC-TV/20 in Chicago, Illinois.
Williams has served as Chair and vice-Chair of the Kansas Public Broadcasting Council. He has been the DTV Chairperson for the state of Kansas since 1998, managing over $7 million in digital conversion projects for Kansas public radio and television.
Currently, Williams is Past-Chair of the Kansas Association of Broadcasters. Nationally, he is a recent Fellow and graduate of the National Association of Broadcaster’s Broadcast Leadership Training Program, its Management Development Seminar for Television Executives and its training program for Non-News Executives.
Williams is currently serving his second term on the PBS Board of Directors. As a PBS Board member, he has served as Chair and Vice-Chair of the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee, Chair and Vice-Chair of the Diversity Task Force, Vice-Chair of the Investment Committee and Vice-Chair of the Business Committee.
He has also served as a member of the Finance Committee. Williams is a past board member of the PBS Small Station Association and currently serves on two CPB equipment funding committees.
Williams has an undergraduate degree in Broadcast & Film Communications; additional technical education in electronics, digital techniques and microprocessors and an MBA, specializing in strategic planning and financial management. Mr. Williams has extensive teaching experience in both broadcasting and business management. He currently teaches military officers in the MBA program for Webster University at the Command General’s School in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas.
Mr. Williams is a member of the Downtown Topeka Rotary Club, and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce. He is involved with various other local and civic organizations as well. He is married to Debra Williams.
