Faculty, staff, students as well as community members are invited to attend the 2008 Civil Rights Symposium on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 25-26 at the UNM Student Union Building, Lobo Rooms A&B. The symposium runs from 1 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday. This year’s theme is, "Civic Literacy Across Communities: A Public Forum."
Keith Gilyard, distinguished professor, Penn State University will deliver the keynote address titled, "Hate Acts, Public Rhetoric, and Civil Rights Activism: 40 years after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr."
The two-day event will include panels, roundtable discussions, open forum, poetry performances and a new film about King. Participation, luncheon, and refreshments are free.
