Harwood Museum of Art at Taos to Present Discovery Series III

Tamarind_coleThe University of New Mexico’s Harwood Museum of Art at Taos will present Discovery Series III, a showcase for artists influenced by the nature, lifestyle or their residence in the Taos area. The series begins with an exhibit of “Edward Corbett: Drawings.” Eighteen pieces from the Corbett estate will be on view in the George F. Foster Jr. Gallery for Prints, Drawings and Photographs Friday, Feb. 6-June 8.

Other notable exhibits to be displayed are “Focus on Sam Scott: New Acquisitions” and “The New Old: Seldom seen Selections from the Harwood Collection.” Both run Friday, Feb. 6-April 26.

In “Focus on Sam Scott: New Acquisitions,” eight of Santa Fean artist Sam Scott’s large-scale oil paintings from the Harwood Collection will be displayed in the Joyce and Sherman Scott Gallery of Late 20th Century Art.

“The New Old: Seldom seen Selections from the Harwood Collection” will exhibit never or seldom seen works from the Harwood Collection in the Peter and Madeleine Martin Foundation Gallery Friday. Artists featured in the exhibit include Marylou Reifsnyder, Ila MacAfee, Burt and Lucy Harwood, Jane Ellen Burke, Mary Ufer, Charles Berninghaus, Gustav Hildebrand and Ann St. John Hawley.

The Harwood Museum of Art of the University of New Mexico is located at 238 Ledoux Street, Taos, N.M. The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, noon-5 p.m.

Admission is $8 for adults and $7 for seniors, students and AAA members. New Mexico residents are admitted free on Sundays with proof of residence. Exhibits are always free to the UNM community, Taos County students and children under 12.
