The UNM Study Abroad Fair is set for Thursday, Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union Building. Titled “Where Will You Go?”, the fair is an opportunity for students to learn about summer and semester exchanges, UNM faculty-led programs and the World Student Alliance.
Additionally, international panel discussions are set on Wednesday, Feb. 4 and Friday, Feb. 6 from noon to 1 p.m. in the SUB atrium.
Jordan Worthington is a student employee in the Office of International Programs and Studies and vice-president of the World Student Alliance. WSA, formerly the UNM Study Abroad Association, is a UNM student-chartered organization whose purpose is to bring international students together with American students to create a globally and culturally informed student body and community.
“Because the Office of International Programs and Studies and WSA share a number of interests, the groups are collaborating on several events this semester,” Worthington said. The study abroad fair is one of their largest joint ventures.
“The World Student Alliance hosts this event specifically for UNM students because we feel as though this would benefit UNM’s programs while helping students become globally aware,” Worthington said.
Higher education researchers consider an international experience beneficial for students and graduates. Studying abroad has a positive impact on student life, and life post-graduation. Study abroad benefits include academic achievement, foreign language proficiency, cultural enrichment, personal development and professional impact.
