Since the summer of 2008, Financial Services managers have been discussing ways to clarify and highlight the functional similarities between Main Campus and HSC Financial Services without obscuring the unique character of the individual departments at each location.
The goal is to affirm that all Financial Services’ departments are now part of one, campus-wide financial organization, while acknowledging the differences between the business needs of UNM’s Main Campus and HSC. By making changes in a few departmental names could clarify important functional parallels and highlight similarities within the Organization.
Consequently the following name changes, and only these name changes, went into effect as of Feb. 1, 2009.
From Old Title to New Title (As of Feb. 1, 2009)
* From Contract & Grant Accounting to Contract & Grant Accounting, Main
* From Post-Award to Contract & Grant Accounting, HSC
* From General Accounting to Unrestricted Accounting, Main
* From Unrestricted Accounting to Unrestricted Accounting, HSC
* From Pre-Award Services to Pre-Award Services, HSC
* From Sponsored Projects Services to Pre-Award Services, Main
Financial Services encourage departments to use these new names after Feb. 1. The departments involved will begin to identify themselves with these new names when answering the phone and in other ways. Departmental stationery and business cards will slowly be changed as current supplies are exhausted. Web Pages and the UNM Directory will be changed as soon as possible. Signage at physical locations will be changed as financial conditions allow.
These changes will also be reflected in a number of other contexts. They have been incorporated in UNM’s Business Policy and Procedure Manual. Please note that these new names will be associated with currently used Org, Index and Mail Stop Codes. Descriptions for all involved Org Codes and the principal Index Codes associated with each Org have been updated by FSM.
UNM Mailing Systems now associates these name changes with the current mail stop codes; therefore, please remember to include an MSC on all your campus mailings. Also, be sure to include either “Main” or “HSC” designations whenever any of the new names are used.
Financial Services recognizes that it will require time for these new names to take root and completely replace names that have, in some cases, been used for decades. If you should have any questions, contact Fred McEnroe at 7-7661.
