The 2009 Career Expo at UNM drew about 4,500 job seekers today. That’s a major increase from the 2,000 who attended in 2008. There were 107 companies or agencies represented at the career fair ranging from the Federal Aviation Administration to Dillards and Walmart. Career Services Director Jenna Crabb says, “We had all ages from straight out of high school to community members who were coming out of retirement.”
Crabb says many of the companies were conducting interviews on the spot, and more have scheduled interview space at the Career Services Department tomorrow to do follow up interviews.
The career fair was open to anyone in the community and by 8 a.m., 120 people were standing in line for the 9 a.m. opening of the expo.
“We have no way of knowing how many people will be hired as a result of this,” said Crabb. “I did have one man who is a member of the community who came by to tell me he had two job offers, one for $65,000 and one for $75,000.”
Crabb says she considered this Career Expo to be successful.
