Interim Director of Financial Aid at UNM Kathleen O’Keefe says the number of applications for financial aid has more than doubled from this time last year. UNM encourages students to send in their applications before the March 1 priority date in order to receive consideration for some types of state grants and work study programs.
“What we’re hoping is that the number of applicants we are seeing reflects the greater awareness students have of the March 1 deadline,” says O’Keefe.
There should still be financial aid options for virtually everyone in spite of the increased demand. O’Keefe says the federal Pell Grants are available to any student who qualifies, and federal student loans are also available to any who qualifies and wishes to apply.
