What is the African American experience in a post-Barack Obama election world? This week the “New Mexico in Focus” staff takes a closer look at the societal impact of Barack Obama’s historic presidential victory here in New Mexico. “New Mexico in Focus,” KNME-TV, channel 5’s weekly one-hour news show, will air on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. and will repeat on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 a.m.
Joining co-host David Alire Garcia to discuss this week’s topic are journalist Tracy Dingmann, New Mexico State Treasurer James Lewis, University of Houston Law Center professor Michael Olivas, and Kathy Powers, a professor at the University of New Mexico Political Science department.
Then the panel on “The Line” will discuss this topic, plus they will take a look at one of the most historic Supreme Court rulings in U.S. history that you’re probably never heard of. What is this case, and how did it change the Mexican-American experience in the U.S.? “The Line” is hosted by co-host Gene Grant and regular panelists Whitney Waite Cheshire and Jim Scarantino. They will be joined by Teresa Cordova, with the University of New Mexico School of Architecture and political consultant Gideon Elliot.
Producers of ‘New Mexico In Focus’ are Kevin McDonald and Kathy Wimmer. Closed captioning has been made possible by a gift from Mrs. Elspeth G. Bobbs.
