UNM Presents Graduate Research Symposium in Anthropology

The 13th Annual Graduate Research Symposium in Anthropology will take place on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 27–28. This year’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Stephen Lansing, a professor of Anthropology at the University of Arizona, with a joint appointment in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Lansing is also a professor with the Santa Fe Institute.

Miria Kano a teaching associate in the UNM Department of Anthropology will present the Folklore Aware Talk on “We’re tzitzit…on the edge[but] still part of the fabric:” Perceptions of identity and community in the narrative accounts of New Mexico’s women rabbis.

Sean Gantt will present the Frida Butler Award Talk on “Unequal Trade: How Choctaw Land Became a Commodity.”

Graduate Student Research Presentations

Dr. J. Stephen Lansing, “Perfect Order: Recognizing Complexity in Bali.”

The event is sponsored by the Anthropology Graduate Student Union, with participation from Latin American Studies, Sociology, American Studies and others. The talks are free and the public is welcome.
