UNM Concert Choir Performs Christmas Favorites as Fundraiser

Group Invited to Perform at American Choral Directors Association Convention

The 39-member UNM Concert Choir needs funds to travel to the American Choral Directors Association convention in Denver this February, where they have been invited to perform. To raise funds, the singers raise their voices in three concerts of "A Sweet Christmas."

The concerts are at the Embassy Suites at Lomas and I-25, 1000 Woodward Place NE, on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 6 and 8 p.m.; and again on Sunday, Dec. 6 at 3 p.m.

Tickets are $25 and available at the door, by emailing choirsec@unm.edu or by calling 277-4429.

“The repertoire will include many seasonal favorites, as well as music from the Concert Choir's newest CD, ‘Light.’ The concerts will also feature the newly-formed UNM Jazz Choir and will involve some audience sing-alongs, as well,” said Bradley Ellingboe, professor of music and director of choral activities.

In addition to the concert, attendees will be treated to a full range of desserts to savor while visiting the silent auction, also to benefit the choir. Donated items include a night's stay at the Tamaya Resort, a $100 gift certificate to the Embassy Suites Spa, gift certificates to The Macaroni Grill, and much more.

The UNM Concert Choir is a highly select mixed-voice ensemble specializing in the study of music, preparation and performance of outstanding choral literature from all periods of musical history. They frequently perform major choral/orchestral works with various orchestras of the Southwest, as well as the University Symphony Orchestra.

The Concert Choir is open to music and non-music majors, undergraduate and graduate students as well as faculty and staff, but all must tryout for a place in the choir.
