Rain or Snow is possible when you see:

Cirrocumulus – a layer of rippled high clouds;

Cirrostratus – a milky white layer of high clouds that covers the sky;

Altocumulus – middle clouds that are white or light gray with flattened layers;

Altostratus – thick, smooth blanket of gray clouds that make the sun look dim.

(Alto - high.)

Stratocumulus. – dark, gray, layered, puffy clouds.

Fair weather clouds:

Cumulus – giant cotton balls.

Storm clouds:

Cumulonimbus. ( Nimbus – produce precipitation.)

If the wind is from the north or southwest, wispy, high cirrus clouds indicate good weather is on its way.

If the wind is from another direction, these clouds thicken; rain or snow is likely.
