This document represents a set of questions routinely asked to try and resolve basic connectivity problem with modems. Ie: It works fine with AOL but I can't get kermit to work, what's wrong?

While some of this info may be useful to mac clients, it is intended for the MS-DOS/PC client.

Getting the basics right

Is it plugged in and turned on? If the modem ports are labeled be sure to plug the correct lines into the appropriate hole. By plugging the phone into the modem you can insure that you have a live cable back to the wall just by picking up the reciever and checking for a dial tone. You may also want to manually dial the phone to insure you can get thru.
