UART stands for Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter.
The maximum speed you can get from a serial port is controlled by which UART
chip was used in your computer and/or modem.
The three most common types and their baudrate limits are listed below.
- 8250
9600 Baud
- 16450
19200 Baud
- 16550A
38400 Baud
