I am currently a postdoctoral fellow (2009-2010) at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies (USMEX) at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). During this fellowship, I am developing research that builds on a Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science (2009) and a law degree from the School of Law (J.D. 2006), both at the University of New Mexico.
My dissertation, which examined subnational judicial reforms across the Brazilian and Mexican states, was funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) the Social Science Research Council (SSRC-IDRF), and the Fulbright Program (Fulbright/IIE), and included 22 months of field research in Brazil and Mexico.
My primary research interests relate to state building and democratization, drawing on the fields of comparative politics, judicial politics/public law, and international relations, with special emphasis on Latin American judicial politics. Other research interests include comparative and international law, social movements, policing, and political violence.
