<p class=3DMsoNormal>I&#8217;ve been trying to insert the map of the <st1:c=
ountry-region
w:st=3D"on"><st1:place w:st=3D"on">US</st1:place></st1:country-region> w/ c=
apital
cities shown and named, but I am unable to do it.<span
style=3D'mso-spacerun:yes'>&nbsp; </span>Maybe further into the assignment,
I&#8217;ll find how to copy from <span class=3DSpellE>ArcMap</span> and pas=
te
into Word.</p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>I measured the distance between <st1:City w:st=3D"on">=
Olympia</st1:City>
and <st1:City w:st=3D"on"><st1:place w:st=3D"on">Augusta</st1:place></st1:C=
ity> in
decimal degrees. It says the segment is 37.34 and the total is 37.33 decimal
degrees. Should they be the same since there&#8217;s only one segment?</p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>Next, I got into the Layers, changed the name and chan=
ged the
display to miles. I didn&#8217;t see another place to make it measure miles.
But it didn&#8217;t change the display units. I even asked to see it in
centimeters, and no change. What did I do wrong now?</p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>I did it and got an error message about potential prob=
lems.
I clicked yes. When I measure, I get the same values as before (the map loo=
ks
the same as before) and they&#8217;re in decimal degrees. </p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><span class=3DGramE>Now for the attribute table.</span=

took a while to figure it was the Cities layer and not the <st1:country-reg=

</span>What does FIPS mean?</p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>I&#8217;ve tried to find the biggest capital city by s=
orting
and I don&#8217;t believe the numbers. I got it. First I have to highlight =
the
column I want to sort on by ordinary clicking, then I <span class=3DSpellE>=
<span
class=3DGramE>rt</span></span> click. So the largest capital city is <st1:C=
ity
w:st=3D"on"><st1:place w:st=3D"on">Phoenix</st1:place></st1:City> at 983403=
? </p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal>-99 tells the computer something &#8211; either that t=
here
is no data or that it is 0 and later it will be bad to try to divide by 0
&#8211; but negative numbers are often a flag to the software.</p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><o:p>&nbsp;</o:p></p>

<p class=3DMsoNormal><span class=3DSpellE><span class=3DGramE>Shapefile</sp=
an></span><span
class=3DGramE>.</span> My map doesn&#8217;t show the states, and I can&#821=
7;t
make it do so. I clicked the Select Features tool and clicked NM and got
several cyan shapes. I exported it as a layer. </p>
