Museum Staff and other Personnel
The Curator is the director of the Division of Arthropods. The Curator is the authority that makes final decisions regarding museum activities and policies. The Curator is also responsible for providing funding to the museum, and to represent the Division of Arthropods to the university administration and general public. The current Curator for the Division of Arthropods is Dr. Manuel Molles, Department of Biology, UNM.
The Collection Manager is responsible for the daily museum operation, and to provide supervision for museum staff. The Collection Manager maintains the collection, database, and all of the museum facilities. The Collection Manager works closely with the Curator to make decisions regarding museum operation and policies, and supervises the Museum Assistants. The Collection Manager is the first person to contact regarding use of museum facilities or for questions regarding specimen loans, specimen donations, identification services, museum visits, and educational outreach. We currently do not have a Collection Manager, but expect to sometime during 2002.
Museum Assistants are UNM Graduate Students who provide assistance for museum operation. Museum Assistants conduct many curatorial tasks such as incorporating specimens into the collection, entering database records, preparing specimen loans, and producing specimen labels. The current Museum Assistants are Ana Davidson and Julie McIntyre, Department of Biology, UNM.
Associate Curators are UNM faculty who are formally recognized by the Director of the Museum of Southwestern Biology (MSB) for contributing to the museum through their research activities. Associate Curators contribute specimens and provide public outreach educational services for the museum.
Museum Associates are people who work in the museum on personal research involving arthropods. Museum Associates include people who are both associated with UNM, plus people from outside of the university community. Museum Associates provide specimens and information to the museum, including teaching and public outreach activities.
Graduate and Undergraduate Students contribute to the museum through their research and teaching activities. Students involved in arthropod research or teaching use museum facilities, and provide the museum with specimens and educational outreach.
