The Mountaineering Club listserv reaches a large audience of current, potential, and former members. With this in mind, the club officers ask anyone using the listserv to send and receive messages to heed the following considerations:

1) Your email reaches hundreds of other people. Be polite, and please send legible messages so we know what you're talking about.

2) This is a very active list, so many messages are expected throughout the semester, but we ask that you refrain from sending an excessive number of messages (and amendments to them). Meaning: check your dates, spelling, etc., before you click send so you don't have to then send a correction notice! Also, this list is meant for club business only. Refrain from sending club-unrelated messages, or spamming.

3) Check your receipients very carefully! If you wish to respond to a particular member personally, check to ensure that you are addressing your email to them specifically, and not the entire list.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1) "Help! I don't know how I got on your list, but take me off!" Or, "I no longer wish to receive messages, so please take me off."

Listserv provides users with the capability to remove themselves from a list. To do this with the Mountaineering club list, send an email from the account currently subscribed to listserv@list.unm.edu. In the body of the email, type

signoff MTNCLUB-L

That's all you have to do!

2) How do I use this?

To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to MTNCLUB-L@list.unm.edu. This is called "sending mail to the list," because you send mail to a single address and LISTSERV makes copies for all the people who have subscribed. This address (MTNCLUB-L@list.unm.edu) is also called the "list address." Never try to send any command to that address, as it would be distributed to all the people who have subscribed.

All commands must be sent to the listserv@list.unm.edu. More information on commands can be found in the LISTSERV reference card, which you can retrieve by sending an "INFO REFCARD" command in the body of an email to listserv@list.unm.edu.
