CLASSY, LEARNED
Just like Sunny (Venezuelan actress Sonya Smith), this actor is also a
key to the success of "Maria Celeste". Well-known and well-liked,
his acting has proven to be the best. At least in "Amor de Papel"
(Kepalsuan Cinta/Fake Love) and in "Como Tú Ninguna" (Gaby
Hanya Kau Cintaku/Gaby You Are My Only Love), where he was given the
leading actor role, Miguel has proven he's got quality. His
complete name is Miguel Ángel de León López and he
was born in Caracas, February 23. He started his career in 1987 as
an advertisement model. One of his first telenovelas was "Fabiola".
He never intended on being an actor. In fact, his success as
an actor is the result of his failure to be a pilot.
The story goes as follows. While studying business administration
in college, he took a flying course. His intention was to get a
part-time job in an agricultural company as a pilot while pursuing his
studies. He didn't come from a wealthy family; that's why he
pushed himself to get a part-time job to finish his degree. He ran
into hard times and had to discontinue his studies for two years. He
also failed to be a pilot. Feeling very down-in-the-dumps, he
accepted an offer to be an ad model as a means of fleeing from his
depression. As it turned out, his choice went a long ways.
He was later recruited by a TV producer to play a role in the
telenovela "Fabiola". He also later finished his studies.
After receiving a business administration degree, he started studying
anthropology. It wasn't until after he played a role in the
telenovela "Kassandra" that he fully committed himself to the world of
acting. His reason was simple --just like other beginners-- the
opportunity to be an actor was too good to pass up. Four years ago,
Miguel married Nubia Quilarque; the only woman, he feels, can
inspire him for life. Truly. According to Miguel, he falls
in love with Nubia every single day.
Perhaps because he's afraid of losing his wife's affection or simply
because they just want to be alone together, until now Miguel hasn't
wanted to have children. "The most difficult
issue for me is the one about children. We've made an agreement
not to have any for several years. Obviously, one of the reasons is
because I'm busy at work," replies Miguel when asked about having
children. Rumors have it that his wife has been upset lately because
he's changed his appearance; she doesn't want him to sport a beard.
Nevertheless, his new look is an important part of the role he plays
in "Como Tu Ninguna". "Nubia has to wait,
at least another two months, for the filming to end. I can shave
the beard and moustache off but then that means I run a risk of breach
of contract. If that happens, how will we get by without any money
to live on?" asks Miguel jokingly.
