HIS CAREER AND LIFE
Miguel de León's latest telenovela, "Carita de Ángel", is
now starting to receive a good response in Mexico. The telenovela
is number 23 on the ratings chart. Not too bad. It may
follow in the footsteps of other popular telenovelas like "Por Tu Amor"
or "Tres Mujeres".
Miguel de León's reputation than predicted will soon be as
popular as his wife, Gabriela Spanic.
Miguel is not just an ordinary actor. Before moving to Mexico he
was already very popular in his country, Venezuela. He is a TV
host (master ceremony), model, stage actor and of course telenovela actor.
His acting skill has also been proven excellent as he, many times, won
the best actor award in his country. Only when he moved to Mexico
than it seems that he has to start his career all over again. At
the beginning Miguel only act as supporting actor, but he is far from
giving up and finally got another chance from "Carita de Ángel".

Miguel was born in Caracas (Venezuela)
After doing a TV host in some TV shows, Miguel did some act in stage and
later on got offer to act in some miniseries. During these years
he also works as a model.
His career in telenovela started with "Sueño Contigo", followed by
"La Millonaria", "Fabiola", "La Revancha", "Caribe", "María
Celeste", "Como Tú Ninguna" (Gaby Hanya Kau Cintaku/Gaby you are my
only love)1 and Sol de Tentacion. Miguel also did some cameo
appearances in "Kassandra" and "Amor de Papel".
Through these telenovelas Miguel received awards as Venezuela's best
actor in 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. After moving to Mexico
he got some roles in "Gotita de Amor" (Impian Chabelita Chabelita's
Dream)2, "Nunca Te Olvidaré" (Esperanza)3, "La Usurpadora" (Cinta
Paulina/literary means Paulina's Love)4 and "Carita de Ángel".
NEW TELENOVELA
In "Carita de Ángel", Miguel act as Luciano. "This is a challenge for me because my role is different.
Before I only play a small role, and now I got a major role, the
producer probably start to put trust on me", says Miguel.
Nicandro Díaz, the producer has actually has interest in Miguel.
But since he did not have the suitable story for him, he had to
postpone his plan to work with Miguel. "When
I read the story that Nicandro gave to me, I am sure that this telenovela
will be a hit success. In reality the rating of this telenovela is
good, really, I'm happy about it".
Talking about his new telenovela, Miguel admits that he is very impressed
when he has to do the sky diving scene. "The
scene was made in a studio and I wasn't really jump from the airplane, but
it's a new experience for me. Maybe because I had to wear a
complete sky diver's outfit, and probably also because this is for the
first time the production of telenovela using a computer graphic
technology".
Through "Carita de Ángel" Miguel's name is once again going up.
But he admits that he does not like his popularity compare to Gaby.
"I don't want to say who is more popular
because each of us has our own way to reach up the success. If the
public appreciates our work, that would be enough for me and more
important both of us give support to each other".
HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH GABY
Miguel and Gaby got married in October 22, 1997. They considered as
an ideal couple. If sacrifices considered as the act of love,
Miguel is sure did it. He is willing to move to Mexico to give
support for Gaby's career. For that he is willing to give up his
career in Venezuela.
At first they have to face a lot of problems when moved to Mexico for the
first time. They have to adapt to the new environment.
"We became very depended to each other because
we don't know may people yet, but we can get through it",
remembered Miguel.
According to Miguel their intimacy was build upon trust between him and
Gaby. "We often put our self in friendship
terms, that way we can be more open to each other. We usually discuss our
problems at night before we go to sleep".
Outside their marriage Miguel-Gaby often work together in the same
telenovla. Both act in "Como Tú Ninguna" and "La
Usurpadora". Miguel admitted that being a professional actor never
make him feel uncomfortable working with his own wife. "Acting with my wife or other actress is the same for
me. Can act in one telenovela is an advantage for us because we
can spent more time together".
Although Miguel and Gaby have a lot of things in common, does not mean
that they don't experience differences. Gaby's easily blow up
character is the opposite of Miguel who is calm and patient.
"We learned from our differences to
understand each other".
So far there are no negative gossips about them. Miguel and Gaby's
life seems to have no resemblance with their life in telenovela, no
conflict, and betrayal.
WHAT MIGUEL MEANS TO GABY
For Gaby, Miguel is not just a husband. He is also a friend,
colleague and a man to whom she owes a lot for her achievement in
career. "After acting in 7 telenovelas in
Venezuela, I decided to take a rest for a year. But then Televisa
suddenly offered me to script. I was reluctant to go to Mexico.
When I asked Miguel, he without doubt supported me to except the
offer".
Her husband support later proof made Gaby gain great success in her
career. If only Miguel disagree to move to Mexico than the story
will be completely different. "Miguel has
made a great sacrifice for my career. If I were to thank people who
has help me achieve my success, one should go to Miguel".
Miguel's role is not only on her career achievement but also on her daily
life. "From him I learn how to be patient
and calm in handling a problem. Frankly, he is more mature than
me".
It is not because Miguel is her own husband if Gaby says that her
favorite actor is Miguel. "I'm not just
praising him. It has been proof that Miguel won best actor awards
so many times in Venezuela. This is an evidence that he is an actor
with great acting skills".
Where in Mexico Gaby's career is shinier than her husband probably is a
matter of opportunity that Miguel has not gets a major role. Only
this year that he has a better role in "Carita de Ángel".
"I'm happy for him that finally there is a
producer in Mexico who trust him to act. I strongly believe that
Miguel would not disappointed him".
To Gaby, Miguel is a man with broad knowledge. "With him I can talk about anything from politics,
economy to anthropology. He loves to read. Everyday before
going to sleep, he always find the time to read. I was
'infected' by this habit, but the book that I like is about metaphysic".
The greatest understanding from Miguel is not to push Gaby to immediately
have baby after they got married. Miguel understands that his wife
is now on top of her career. He let Gaby enjoy her hard work.
"Until 2001 she is on contract with Televisa.
I will give any support that I can for her to fulfill her
responsibility".
How happy she is to have such an understanding husband like Miguel.
