Some foreign actors who come to our country, arrive looking for an
opportunity, for a chance to demonstrate they can do things well. In
the beginning, when he arrived from his native Venezuela, he was known as
Gaby Spanic's husband... but Miguel de León is determined to no
longer be known as such (it doesn't bother me; "Yes, I am her husband.
And what?") and to be known [instead] for his acting ability; the
same one he'll be demonstrating in "Carita de Ángel", the new
children's telenovela and a Nicandro Díaz production that we'll
be seeing at 4 p.m. on the Channel of the Stars [Mexico City].
"I never expected my first leading role in Mexico
to be like this. It's always been hard for me. I've always
had to squeeze blood from a rock to obtain what I've desired in life; but
it was a dream to be here. When I came to this country, I didn't
come with the intention of working; I came to rest and to accompany my
wife in her new phase. From the beginning, I started to get very
good roles in three stories... which I did... and slowly, bit by bit,
this project started to emerge until it materialized."
The character is Dulce María's (Daniela Aedo) father who,
because of a deep depression following the loss of the woman he most
loved, decides to place his young daughter in a boarding school run by
nuns and leaves the country. On his trip he meets Nicole (Ana
Patricia Rojo), a frivolous and money-hungry woman. After a while,
he decides to return [home] to his daughter but he doesn't arrive alone.
Nicole accompanies him because they've decided to get married.
Dulce María does everything possible to separate them
because she has someone else in mind for her beloved father to marry:
her teacher Cecilia (Lisette Morelos), a lovely [religious] novice.
Richard Blue interpreted this character some time ago in "Mundo de
Juguete" (Toy World). The story is well-known but it has suffered
adaptations starting with the number of episodes ("Mundo de Juguete"
lasted close to two years). The daily episodes are one-hour long
and the technology will have a field day participating [in this story]
because the moment Dulce María enters the "old" [storage] room,
the room will undergo a noticeable transformation. In addition,
there will be special-effect kisses galore. Her mother will be the
angel that guides her on the right path; the story will have subplots
and the dialogues will be contemporaneous.
He likes children a lot. He feels they fill a necesity he's
had [for some time] and he wants to be a father, hopefully in the
not-too-distant future.
"It's been years now, ever since I met Gaby, that
I've yearned to be a father but we haven't been able to because of so
much work... I hope soon to have that opportunity and that
happiness that represents being a father... maybe by 2001; then he/she
will proudly be a Mexican."
Within the story we will see various characters sing, among them Miguel,
of which he comments: "It's an inclination
I've had for some time. I haven't been able to develop it because
I consider myself, first and foremost, an actor and [I see] singing as
maybe a complement. I have never seen myself as a professional
singer. For this type of thing (acting), it helps to know how to
sing. I don't wish to start a career as a singer. It's very
hard and it requires a lot of time".
