Other communication requirements
Other research, educational, and government communities face application and communications needs very similar to those within higher education.
These needs have spawned several high-performance networking initiatives that variously parallel and overlap Internet 2, especially the
- NSF vBNS project and
- the set of "Next Generation Internet" efforts announced by the White House last fall.
