Technical components
Internet 2 has four major technical components
- Applications that require I2-level services and the equipment end users need to run the applications (denoted by solid-colored screens in Figure for overall architecture of I2).
- Campus networks connecting GigaPOPs to end users in their labs, classrooms, or offices (solid clouds).
- GigaPOPs consolidating and managing traffic from campus networks (striped clouds) and
- I2 interconnections among the GigaPOPs (dotted cloud).
