Endnodes autoconfigure based on IEEE address
Ask router for 4 byte network number
Fill in IEEE address in bottom 6 bytes
Someone is on you LAN if net # matches
No ARP! Use bottom 6 bytes as IEEE address
Better than IP:
- more net #s
- autoconfigures
- No ARP overhead
So why this misconceptions that IPX is “LAN-only”, “doesn’t scale”, etc.?
