Point to point topology
- Only two N_ports directly connected.
Arbitrated loop topology
- Connects up to 126 nodes in a loop.
- Ports on loop must support N_port and F_port functionalities.
- Ports are called NL_ports
- Operation is roughly equal to token ring protocols.
- Each port sees all frames and passes them along, keeping the ones it needs and ignoring the ones not addressed to it.
- A token access protocol is used to get loop access by a port
