Wireless Media Access Control (Slide 2)

• Distributed Foundation Wireless MAC (DAFWMAC) was the final product of 802.11 committee’s efforts to come up with a wireless MAC protocol.

• Allows distributed access control mechanisms.

• Allows central control of access as an optimal feature

• Contains 3 layers:

  • Physical layer
  • Distrbuted coordination function (DCF)
  • Point coordination function (PCF)
