Information flow on each logical connection is organized into fixed-size packets called cells.
ATM protocol has minimal error and flow control capabilities which leads to
- reduced overhead of processing ATM cells.
- reduced number of overhead bits required with each cell.
- high data rates due to less overhead.
Fixed size cell reduces processing need at each ATM node leading to high data rates.
