• Ensure all network electronics are compliant with national standards. Avoid proprietary standards, unless it is mandatory to use them ( i.e. a requirement).
• Use components that are SNMP or RMON compatible to facilitate network management.
• Request MTF and MTR (mean time to failure and mean time to repair) figures from vendors and check with independent references to ensure consistency between vendor promises and user reality.
