President, E. David Atencio
Superintendent, Jemez Valley Public Schools
December 15, 2011
It has been my great fortune to serve the students of New Mexico for the past 32 years. To now be asked by one's peers to serve as President of the New Mexico School Superintendents Association is an honor that I approach with gratitude, humility, excitement, and determination.
As Superintendents, we have been privileged to serve in every capacity of the educational process. As a result of those experiences, we have acquired the knowledge, perspective, and "understanding" necessary to make our unique and individual districts successful for the sake of our students and families. The cornerstones of our success have always been: communication, teamwork, collaboration, honesty and integrity. We hold the latter to be of utmost importance.
I look forward to working in concert with each Superintendent as we continue to move forward in developing a unified vision for our students, families, employees, Association and State. While our individual circumstances may provide us with differences in perspective and purpose, one thing is certain and remains the same: we are here for kids. There is no greater purpose for doing what we do.
