Interactive website where students learn how artifacts are used in interpreting and writing about the past. What is unique is the opportunity to have students write their own interpretation of this 1830 farmhouse based on five artifacts and then compare it with what was done by a historian. This provides an opportunity to have them understand how history is written. This is a usable teaching strategy that can be adapted for teaching a variety of topics in all history courses and across grade levels.
For example, students could collect 5 artifacts from their home to write about the history of their family. Bob, a high school teacher used in his class. " I projected the five artifacts on a screen and led class discussion on each object ... The kids enjoyed it ... They all scored well on the quiz I gave them two days later over the items we looked at."
