Societies conduct foreign policy in order to ensure their safety and promote their interests.  The ways that societies conduct foreign policy and the effects of their actions vary widely.  This course analyzes the formulation and conduct of foreign policy in a comparative context.  The course focuses on national security policy using a variety of analytic approaches including ideology and value-based, institution-based, agent-based, network-ordered, and other models.  The course emphasizes the increasingly important nexus of public policy and technology.

This course is offered under the auspices of the UNM National Security Studies Program.  The course is offered for undergraduate credit (PS 400) and for graduate credit (PS 512).
