Faculty Position in Cell Biology

 

The Department of Biology at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. The appointment will be the first of two hires in the area of Cell Biology, and will be probationary leading to a tenure decision. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a nationally competitive, externally funded research program utilizing an established model organism. Applicants whose research focus complements existing strengths in the Department, which include developmental biology, molecular biology, genomics and molecular genetics, will be preferred. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching, and should be enthusiastic about working in a vigorous biology department with diverse research programs. Candidates must have a Ph.D. and at least two years of post-doctoral experience by the start date of the position. The position is available at the start of the Fall semester 2008.

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD in Biology or related discipline.
  • Postdoctoral experience in cell biology or related discipline.
  • Research plan utilizing an established model organism.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals
  • Commitment to establishing a vigorous and independent, funded research program
  • Research area that complements existing research in cell and molecular biology in the Department
  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate through graduate level
  • Enthusiasm for being a collegial member of a vigorous biology department with diverse research interests
