The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of New Mexico is seeking a Lecturer in modern Mandarin Chinese starting in August 2008. This is a permanent non-tenure track position. Minimum Requirements: 1) M.A. by date of appointment. 2) Specialization in Chinese Language and Culture. 3) Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin Chinese. Preferred Qualifications: 1) Record of teaching at an institution of higher education. 2) Demonstrated background and interest in second language acquisition. 3) Evidence of collegiality. The successful candidate will be expected to assume a full teaching load (usually six courses per year) in Chinese language courses ranging from beginning to advanced level. He or she will also be expected to advise students, and to assist in planning the expansion of the Chinese program. For best consideration, application materials must be received by January 25, 2008; however the position will remain open until filled. Applications must include a signed letter of application describing qualifications for the position including a brief statement on teaching philosophy, a curriculum vita, summary of recent teaching evaluations, a lesson plan, and three letters of recommendation.
