Physical Education Faculty Position

The University of New Mexico College of Education, Department of Health, Exercise & Sport Sciences, invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Physical Education Teacher Education, probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision, beginning August 2008.

Minimum Qualifications:  1) doctorate in physical education pedagogy/curriculum and instruction by appointed start date.

Preferred Qualifications:  1) teaching experience at the middle/secondary level; 2) demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate courses in physical education teacher education; 3) demonstrated experience supervising student teachers at the middle/secondary level, 4) demonstrated experience teaching graduate-level courses in curriculum and instruction; 5) evidence of excellence or the potential for excellence in scholarly research in physical education; 6) demonstrated experience mentoring graduate students in dissertation proposal development and serving on doctoral dissertation committees and comprehensive exam committees for M.S. and Ph.D.;  7) demonstrated experience supervising graduate student internships within the undergraduate teacher education program; and, 8) experience working with culturally diverse groups.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of graduate- and undergraduate-level courses in Curriculum and Instruction/K-12 Physical Education Teacher Education.  In addition, this person will teach the secondary teaching methods courses, and supervise student teachers at the secondary level.  This person will advise master’s and doctoral-students specializing in Curriculum and Instruction, supervise graduate-level internships, assist graduate student research projects, and will be expected to serve on degree committees of Curriculum and Instruction, and maintain an active research agenda.

4. Course syllabi;

5. Course evaluations;

7. Transcripts of ALL collegiate coursework (readable, UNOFFICIAL copies will be accepted).
