Physical Education Faculty Position

 

The University of New Mexico College of Education, Department of Health, Exercise & Sport Sciences, invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Physical Education Teacher Education, probationary appointment leading to a tenure decision, beginning August 2008.

Minimum Qualifications1) doctorate in physical education pedagogy/curriculum and instruction by appointed start date.

Preferred Qualifications1) teaching experience at the middle/secondary level; 2) demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate courses in physical education teacher education; 3) demonstrated experience supervising student teachers at the middle/secondary level, 4) demonstrated experience teaching graduate-level courses in curriculum and instruction; 5) evidence of excellence or the potential for excellence in scholarly research in physical education; 6) demonstrated experience mentoring graduate students in dissertation proposal development and serving on doctoral dissertation committees and comprehensive exam committees for M.S. and Ph.D.;  7) demonstrated experience supervising graduate student internships within the undergraduate teacher education program; and, 8) experience working with culturally diverse groups.

Responsibilities:  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a variety of graduate- and undergraduate-level courses in Curriculum and Instruction/K-12 Physical Education Teacher Education.  In addition, this person will teach the secondary teaching methods courses, and supervise student teachers at the secondary level.  This person will advise master’s and doctoral-students specializing in Curriculum and Instruction, supervise graduate-level internships, assist graduate student research projects, and will be expected to serve on degree committees of Curriculum and Instruction, and maintain an active research agenda.

3. One professional publication or presentation;

4. Course syllabi;

5. Course evaluations;

6. The names, addresses, telephone numbers, and, e-mail addresses of three to five professional references; and,

7. Transcripts of ALL collegiate coursework (readable, UNOFFICIAL copies will be accepted).
