School of Public Administration 

Assistant Professor

 

The School of Public Administration (SPA) invites applications for two available assistant professor level probationary faculty appointments leading to a tenure decision, beginning August 2008.  A Ph.D. in public administration, political science or related discipline is required. Candidates must demonstrate strong potential for cutting edge research, excellent teaching, external funding and service to the university and community. For one position, candidates’ primary research and teaching interest must be in public sector Human Resources Management. For the second position the area of specialization in public administration is open. Faculty engaged in productive research and scholarship  commonly teach two courses per semester.  The preferred qualifications for both positions are a record of scholarly publication, and excellence in teaching at the graduate level.

The MPA program in the School of Public Administration is one of the oldest NASPAA accredited programs in the nation. The University of New Mexico is the premier research university in the state of New Mexico. UNM is a Carnegie Doctoral Very High Research Activity Institution and a Hispanic Serving Institution, with over 33,000 students on the main and branch campuses.

The University of New Mexico is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Albuquerque is ranked number one on Forbes magazine’s 2006 list of Best Places for Business and Careers, and is ranked number one in creativity among medium-sized cities in Richard L. Florida’s book The Rise of the Creative Class. Albuquerque is an ethnically diverse city with a rich culture and a location offering unparalleled opportunities for outdoor adventure. The University is located within minutes of the Sandia and Manzano mountain ranges, which offer great opportunities for hiking, biking, rock climbing and skiing.
