Professional Organizations

The following is a list of some organizations OLIT students and faculty are currently involved in. These organizations can help students gain practical experience in the training and development world. Additionally, involvement in any of these organizations provides the opportunity to network with industry professionals. American Educational Research Association (AERA)

AERA is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results.

American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE)

The nation's premiere adult education organization dedicated to being the leading source in the field of adult learning. AAACE publishes two of the nation's leading periodicals in adult education and learning:
Adult Learning and the Adult Education Quarterly.

American Evaluation Association (AEA)

AEA is devoted to the application and exploration of evaluation in all its forms.

Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE)

AACE is an international, educational, and professional not-for profit organization dedicated to the advancement of the knowledge, theory, and quality of learning and teaching at all levels with information technology. This purpose of AACE is accomplished through the encouragement of scholarly inquiry related to information technology in education and the dissemination of research results and their applications through publications, conferences, societies and chapters, and inter-organizational projects.

Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT)

The mission of the AECT is to provide international leadership by promoting scholarship and best practices in the creation, use, and management of technologies for effective teaching and learning in a wide range of settings.

International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE)

ICDE is the global organization for flexible learning and teaching deriving its position from the unique knowledge and experience of its members throughout the world, expertise from this in development and use of new methodologies and emerging technologies, and its status within UNESCO as the NGO with formal consultive relations in distance and on-line education. An important aim of ICDE is to promote intercultural co-operation and understanding through flexible learning and teaching throughout the world.

International Society for Technology in Education  (ISTE)

ISTE provides leadership and service to improve teaching and learning by advancing the effective use of technology in education.

New Mexico American Society for Training and Development (ASTD)

ASTD is an international organization widely recognized for providing leadership to individuals, organizations, and communities to strengthen work related competencies and performance. Similarly, the goals of the New Mexico ASTD Chapter are to enhance members' professional growth and skills, and provide training leadership within the New Mexico community.

New Mexico Evaluators (NME)

NME seeks to provide a statewide, multicultural, interdisciplinary forum for professional development and networking in the field of evaluation.

New Mexico International Society of Performance Improvement (NMISPI)

The New Mexico Chapter was founded under ISPI fundamentals of improving productivity and performance in the workplace.

Society for Applied Learning Technology® (SALT)

SALT is oriented to professionals whose work requires knowledge and communication in the field of instructional technology.

United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA)

USDLA was formed to promote the development and application of distance learning for education and training.
