Admission Criteria

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university, at least a 3.0 GPA in the last sixty (60) hours of undergraduate work, positive recommendations, a writing sample, schedule and complete an interview either over the phone or in person with an OLIT Faculty member, and goals or objectives that can be reasonably achieved through a degree in this program.

Non-Degree Students: Up to twelve (12) non-degree-seeking UNM graduate-level credit hours may be applied to the M.A. Degree program with the approval of the advisor. Check your transcript periodically to see that it shows the Courses as non-degree-seeking graduate.

Application Completeness: Application procedures should be started well in advance of the decision deadlines for each semester to allow ample time for materials to be received and reviewed. Incomplete files will not be reviewed until the next semester if past the deadline; and, therefore, new applications will need to be submitted reflecting the next semester. Applicants will be notified of admission decisions by letters from both the UNM Graduate Admissions Office and the Program Office.

Application Packet "Received" Deadlines

Important: Application packets are to be received in Graduate Admissions (OGS) at least four weeks prior to the Program deadlines.
