Opportunities in the Laser Industry: 2002 and Beyond

The photonics industry has undergone significant change in the past several years from both a technology and market perspective. This talk will review recent trends in the laser industry, focusing on non-telecommunication markets such as military/avionics, graphics arts, medical/bio-instrumentation, and materials processing. An overview of recent laser technology developments will be presented, and the applications that drive these developments will be discussed.

Paul Rudy, Ph.D. is the Market Development Manager at Coherent, Inc. He has previously served as the Product Manager at Coherent Semiconductor Group, and in the Advanced Technical Sales Group for Coherent Semiconductor Group and Coherent Laser Group. He received his doctoral degree in atomic physics at the University of Rochester, and his undergraduate degrees in physics and philosophy at Duke University.
