ENGAGE with Proven Pedagogical Strategies for Student Success in Engineering, Science and Mathematics
Wednesday, September 28, 2011, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
University of New Mexico, Albuquerque
Presentations and workshops will focus on proven and time-tested pedagogical strategies for enhancing student retention and success in the STEM disciplines. Science, mathematics, and engineering faculty interested in easy-to-implement practices in their daily university life that will help promote better relations with students and better connections to the subject matters taught are particularly encouraged to attend.
This is a one-time, unique opportunity to benefit from presentations and workshops related to UNM’s participation in the NSF-supported ENGAGE: Engaging Students in Engineering program (http://www.engageengineering.org/). As a part of this event, attending engineering, science, and mathematics faculty (tenured, tenure-track, lecturers) will learn how they can participate in ENGAGE at UNM and receive small grants ($500) in return for developing engaging learning opportunities and activities in their classes. (Click here for the request for proposals)
A repeating workshop will be led by Dr. Scott Kiefer from the Mechanical Engineering Program at of York College of Pennsylvania. Dr. Kiefer’s distinguished career in engineering and engineering education has led him to previous positions at University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, Michigan State University, and Tine University. He appears at UNM with sponsorship from ENGAGE.
