Mobile Game Design and Other uses of Mobile Technology for Learning
Come find out what's so special about mobile technologies! Moving beyond mobile reproductions of administrative content, innovators have begun to experiment with transformative, and even disruptive, uses of mobile technology in the name of learning. Primarily, handheld, always connected computers give educators a chance to move learning outside the classroom in ways never before possible. This workshop will cover some of the basic affordances brought about by the mobile revolution and discuss some of the specific strategies already employed and in progress both here at UNM and in other educational contexts. This includes the design and play of mobile place-based games as both a means and an end. The goal will be to begin brainstorming new educational interventions for a mobile enabled world that go beyond window dressing and truly inspire.
