OSET Faculty Associates Program
(currently on hiatus)

Explanation

The Office of Support for Effective Teaching (OSET) sponsors a Faculty Associates Program that formally brings as many as two faculty members into OSET each year to assist faculty peers.  Faculty Associates help facilitate OSET events, including those that the Associates develop, and consult with faculty members who request advice and classroom visits to acquire feedback on their teaching and the effectiveness of student learning.  Each Associate designs and implements (or assists in these processes) workshops, institutes, and/or brown bag discussions in an area of teaching and learning where they have developed notable competency that can be shared for the benefit of all UNM instructors.  Examples of these areas include, but are not restricted to, large-class instruction, teaching with technology, writing in the disciplines, team teaching, interdisciplinary teaching, active and reflective learning strategies, teaching across student differences, assessing student learning, scholarship of teaching and learning, etc.  The Associate’s own teaching will also be enhanced through engagement with many faculty members in diverse disciplinary areas.

Each Faculty Associate receives $3000 of special compensation as an addition to their contracted annual salary (payable half in August and half in January).  The expectation is that the Associate will spend, on average, 6-8 hours/week engaged with OSET activities.  Associate applicants and their department chairs must assure OSET that time is available for this commitment.  Up to $3000 is available to the Associate’s department for identified adjustments to staffing that enable the faculty member to participate in the Associates Program.

Eligibility
All tenured faculty members employed primarily at UNM’s Albuquerque campuses are automatically eligible to apply.  Nontenured faculty should discuss this opportunity with the OSET Director (7-2229) before applying.

Term of Appointment
Associates are appointed for a full academic year by the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs upon the recommendation of the OSET Director.  An Associate may, upon consultation with the OSET Director, apply for one additional year.  Appointments for the next school year will be announced in February of the current year, and are contingent on funding allocations for the coming fiscal year.

Application
No applications are being accepted at this time.
