"Success in the Classroom: Sharing Practices that Work" is an annual conference by instructors for instructors that provides a forum to share insights into successful teaching and learning. Participation is open to all instructors from all UNM campuses. Convened in a professional-conference format, speakers present short, 20-minute summaries of methods and approaches that they have implemented in their classrooms or in online environments. Each presentation is followed by a ten-minute discussion period. A poster session provides an alternative venue for discussion. The conference provides an opportunity to broaden a teaching commons of UNM faculty desiring to aid one another in developing effective learning pedagogies and teaching practices.

Invitation to Present at the 2012 Conference

The 2011 conference will consist of two oral sessions running concurrently during part of the day. There will also be a poster session where the posters will be available for viewing all day with presenters present at designated times. Any and all UNM instructors at all ranks (including teaching assistants and adjuncts) are invited to present at the conference. Please do not feel limited to the traditional classroom experience; the conference title refers to classrooms as learning environments—including virtual, laboratory, online, field, and experiential.


Deadline for proposing an oral or poster presentation: December 21, 2011.

Notification of acceptance: No later than January 13, 2012.
We desire to accept all volunteered presentations but may have to make choices if there are more proposals than available time slots. Willingness to present in poster format increases the ability to accept your presentation in the program. If necessary, preference will be give to presentations that emphasize real examples of changes or innovations in teaching that you applied in your classes, along with indications of how these changes or innovations improved student learning and/or attitudes and motivation.
