University of New Mexico Alpha Chapter


Phi Sigma Tau is a philosophy honorary society whose purpose is to be a means for developing and honoring academic excellence as well as philosophical interest among college students. 
Phi Sigma Tau stands for Philoúnton sophían timé, (of those who love wisdom, honor).

Athenian Owl

The insignia of Phi Sigma Tau is the reverse side of the Athenian silver tetradrachm, which bears the owl of Pallas Athena, the goddess of wisdom, on the front.

 

PHI SIGMA TAU MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  • Two semesters attendance at UNM,
  • Sophomore standing or higher,
  • G.P.A. of 3.0 or better,
  • Completion of at least two courses in Philosophy with above a 3.5 G.P.A. in the field,
  • A $35 initiation fee is required after notification of membership.
