The University of New Mexico Center for Micro-Engineered Materials (CMEM) serves as a focal point for materials science research and education at UNM. The research performed by the CMEM faculty is highly leveraged because of close collaboration with research scientists from Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and the Sandia Center for Integrated Nanotechnology (CINT).
Faculty from Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering and Physics work in the Center to develop new technologies to make the U.S. more competitive in ceramic science and engineering. The projects are interdisciplinary in nature and use state-of-the-art equipment within the Center and the Advanced Materials Laboratory, a facility operated jointly by UNM and Sandia National Laboratories.
The Center for Micro-Engineered Materials has been a site for the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program since 1994.
