The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia was founded in 1908 and today continues a strong tradition of excellence in both research and education. We are a nationally-ranked department comprised of an energetic faculty leading first-rate research programs. These programs cover a diverse range of topics including biotechnology, nanotechnology, future energy sources, fuel cells, catalysis, environmental engineering, computer and molecular simulation, electrochemistry, materials development, separations technology and thermodynamics. Faculty and graduate students draw on the wide range of excellent research facilities available in the department and participate in a number of multidisciplinary research centers across the School of Engineering and the University of Virginia.
