Psychology majors and minors enroll in the College of Arts and Sciences, which has its own requirements for admission and graduation. If you are not already enrolled in the College and aware of its requirements, you should consult the UNM Catalog and visit the college advisement center in Student Services Building, Room 140.

After completing 90 credit hours you must complete a degree application. The appropriate forms must be obtained from the College of Arts and Sciences Advisement Center. Psychology majors and minors must visit the Student Advisor to review coursework completed and additional work needed in order to fulfill departmental requirements and signatures on the application for degree. Students who do not complete this procedure will receive an academic hold on their student account and will not be able to register.

If you are transferring credits from another university, you must have these approved through the office of Undergraduate Admissions (consult the UNM Catalog and the college advisement center). Transfer coursework in psychology must also be specifically approved by the associate chair of the department. Transfer credit will be approved if: UNM accepts the credit, it was completed within the past 10 years, if a grade of C or better was earned, and if the course is essentially equivalent to a course offered in the department. No more than 18 hours may be transferred towards the major in Psychology; no more than 13 hours for the minor. Before you come to the department for transfer credit approval, assemble the materials that will help in evaluating your coursework: your Transfer Credit Evaluation Statement from the office of Admissions or by using my.unm.edu, a copy of an advisement transcript, a catalog of the school describing the courses you took, course description, syllabi and/or textbooks used in the courses, etc. Bring these with you when you come to obtain transfer credit in psychology. Only the associate chair can approve courses for transfer credit to count toward the psychology major or minor.
