Welcome! The Psychology department is located in Logan Hall on the south edge of UNM's main campus. In addition to faculty and administrative offices and seminar rooms, the building is well-equipped for psychological experimentation. Psychologists engage in a variety of activities including research, teaching, psychological services to individuals and groups, consultation, and administration. Individual psychologists usually devote themselves to more than one of these activities at any time. The work setting of the psychologist also varies. Psychologists are found in universities, government laboratories, private industry, hospital wards, outpatient clinics and community health centers. A student wishing to become a professional psychologist must seek graduate training. Students majoring in psychology at UNM are pursuing a variety of personal and professional career goals. The major in Psychology requires at least 35 hours in psychology coursework in addition to the college of Arts & Sciences requirements. Our faculty all hold doctoral degrees from major U.S. and Canadian universities, and they represent a broad range of specializations. Among the major interest areas represented in the department are: Human Learning, memory and cognition, applied psychology, cognitive neuroscience, behavioral neuroscience, cross-cultural and community psychology, developmental psychology, physiological psychology, neuropathology, social psychology, personality, psychotherapy, clinical psychology, group and individual behavior therapies, and behavior analysis.
