Dear Students,

The chapter of Phi Theta Kappa on this campus extends an invitation for you to accept membership in the international honor society of two-year college students. The requirements to become a member are based on the number of hours that you have completed and your GPA, therefore, membership in Phi Theta Kappa is by invitation only.

There are some important aspects regarding Phi Theta Kappa that are important for you to know. First, there is no time component necessary on your part, as we realize that most of our members are busy with their jobs, school and families.

The benefits of membership are numerous. Phi Theta Kappa is made up of 1.2 million members on 1,200 campuses around the world. The benefits include the Phi Theta Kappa seal on your diploma: the privilege of wearing the Honors Stole, Cord, and Tassel at graduation; a myriad of scholarships (over $30 million); the chance to travel to various conferences throughout the year, as well as becoming an alumni member after graduation. These are just a few of the benefits of becoming a member. As transfer students, your transcripts that are sent to senior institutions will have the Phi Theta Kappa stamp. If you plan to transfer to a senior institution, your membership as noted on your transcript will put you ahead of other competing students seeking admission into that specific college or program.

After you become a member of Phi Theta Kappa, you must maintain a GPA of 3.5 to remain a member. There is a one-time membership fee that must accompany your application. The one-time fee enrolls you into this campus chapter, the region and the International Society. The fee helps to cover the mailing of various scholarship guides and Society information. You will also automatically be nominated for the National Dean's List (a yearly publication of outstanding students that guarantees 30 scholarships to Phi Theta Kappa members annually), which is one more item to use in your college transfer application or resume.

Membership applications are available today in ( the Student Services office), the campus office of Phi Theta Kappa.

You should view this invitation as an honor, and I hope you will not pass up this valuable and rewarding opportunity which you have earned.

Sincerely,

Dr. Alice Letteney
