REVIEW GUIDELINES FOR BUDDHISM TEST:  RELIGION 107

  1. In addition to completing the readings listed on the syllabus, review the list of key terms on pages 188-189 of Molloy text
  2. Additional key terms:  tulku, vajrayana, zazen, Bodhidharma, Nichiren, Pure Land Buddhism, Dharmakaya, Mahayana Buddhism, Theravada Buddhism, deity yoga, bodhi, Tripitaka.
  3. Review the life story of the Buddha;birth (when),  his life of luxury, the 4 passing sights, his Great Going Forth/ Renunciation (what age?).    Age of the Buddha’s enlightenment.  Why Buddhism is a “middle way”.
  4. Review: the 3 jewels, the 3 marks of Reality, the 4 Noble truths, the 8-fold path, 3 root evils.
  5. Review the differences between Theravada Buddhism and Mahayana Buddhism, and the differences between Zen, Nichiren, and Pure Land schools of the Mahayana.
  6. Review basics of Vajrayana Buddhism.
